Jesus has been one of the most controversial persons in
history. His true identity is what separates all religions.
Some say He is just a prophet or a good teacher. Some
claim He is a created being, and many claim He is God’s
Son. All the major religions acknowledge Jesus, but only
one can be right about who He really is. To genuinely seek
the truth, the starting point of your search should be on
the person of Jesus.
Very many people believe that all religions are the same;
that we worship the same God. Compare that philosophy
with what Jesus said in John 14:6:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to
the Father except
through Me.”
He is not a way. He is THE way. Since that is true, it is
vital to know the truth about Him.
Jesus is God and He came to this earth as God in the flesh.
In 1 John 2:22-23 we read: “Who is a liar, but he who
denies that Jesus is the Christ?...Whoever denies the Son
does not have the Father either.”
At Jesus’ birth, He was called Immanuel, which means “God with us” (see
Isa. 7:14 and Matthew 1:23)
In John 8:58 Jesus referred to Himself as “I Am”, the exact term that God used about Himself when speaking to Moses from the burning bush (Exodus 3:14).
In the Gospels Jesus performed many things that only God could do:
He forgives sins (Mark 2:5-7)
He knew people’s thoughts (Matt. 12:25; Luke 6:8)
He had power over nature (Matt. 14:25; Luke 8:24)
In Exodus 34:14 we are commanded to “worship no other god.” Jesus received and approved others of worshipping Him (Matt. 14:33; John 9:38)
All of these things are powers and rights that belong only to God.
Finally, in John 2:18-22, Jesus made the most astounding prediction of all time. He prophesied that His body would be destroyed (crucified), but in three days He would raise Himself from the dead. This is something only God could do!
Jesus clearly claimed to be God in the flesh. This means He was either insane or He is who He said He is. There is no middle ground. If Jesus is who He claimed to be, there is nothing more important than receiving Him as Savior. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” (John 1:12).
How do you receive Christ? Salvation is a gift from God that you receive (not earn) by faith “For by grace are you saved through faith. It is the gift of God not of works lest anyone should be able to boast”. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Has anyone ever shown you how to receive Christ?
Here is a sample prayer of faith: “Jesus, I believe that you are God and that you died to save me from my sins and that you rose from the dead. Please forgive me for my sins and come into my life and be my Savior and my Lord. Thank you for saving me! Amen.”
If you truly believe that Jesus is God and that He died, rose again so that you could be forgiven, then go back and pray the above prayer with a humble heart.
Now what? Well, if you prayed that prayer, we’d love to hear about it. Send us an Email, give us a call, or show up at a church service and let us know of your decision. We’d love to celebrate with you! We will also provide you with some great tools to help you grow and mature in your newfound faith.
